CM Arvind Kejriwal announces weekend curfew in Delhi, essential services exempted: Highlights – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced weekend curfew in the capital to arrest the current surge of Covid-19 cases.
The chief minister said that there is no lack of hospital beds for patients in Delhi. “According to the latest data, more than 5,000 beds are available,” said Kejriwal.
The CM also said that enforcement of Covid-19 norms will be strictly implemented in public places.
Here are the highlights:
* Curfew passes will be issued to those rendering essential services.
* Malls, gyms, spas and auditoriums will remain closed.
* Cinemas halls to operate at 30 per cent capacity only.
* People will not be allowed to dine-in restaurants, only home deliveries permitted.
* Only one weekly market will operate per day per municipal zone.
* People attending weddings in Delhi to be given e-passes to facilitate movement during weekend curfew.
The city registered the highest single-day spike of 17,282 fresh Covid-19 infections and 104 related deaths on Wednesday.
The total infection caseload of Delhi has reached 7,67,438. There are 50,736 active cases so far. With 104 additional deaths in the last 24 hours, the overall Covid-19 death toll of the national capital now stands at 11,540.
Furthermore, a total of 9,952 people recovered from the virus in the said period, taking the total number of recoveries to 7,05,162.
The Covid-19 positivity rate of Delhi also jumped to 15.92 per cent on Wednesday.
