BENGALURU: Varthur policemen turned cigarette sellers to gather information about drug peddlers and arrested three peddlers on Wednesday and Thursday and seized 30kg of ganja from them.
Police received an information that a gang was smuggling ganja from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and selling it to students, IT professionals and general public in the city. Police inspector Praveen Babu assigned constables Muniraju, Nagaraju and Shivaraju to gather more information about the drug peddlers. The trio posed as cigarette sellers and moved in and around Carmelram Railway station and Sarjapur Road since first week of October.
Acting on the credible information, Varthur police arrested a Shivakumar (34) from Ananthapur district in Andhra Pradesh near Sarjapur road on Wednesday. Police seized 10kg ganja from him. The cops arrested two more alleged drug peddlers, Rathnakar Sahoo (41) and Pankaj Dingal (45), both from Odisha, on Thursday near Carmelram railway station and seized 20kg of ganja from them.
Police said that the accused had packed ganja in chocolate boxes to prevent its smell from spreading. Further probe is underway.
