Jaipur: Rajasthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Friday categorically rejected (Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s claim that he had agreed to join the saffron unit in a phone call to her.
Taking a dig at the BJP leader, Pilot said, “Rita Bahuguna Joshi said she has spoken to Sachin. She might have spoken to Sachin Tendulkar. She doesn’t have the courage to speak to me.”
Pilot’s statement comes at a time when reports are doing rounds that he is unhappy with the Congress leadership and is contemplating on joining BJP.
Since last year, Pilot has openly revolted against his party colleague and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Following his open rebellion against Gehlot, the Congress high command had stripped him from the post of deputy chief minister and also from the post of state Congress chief.
Amid, Uttar Pradesh Congress leader Jitin Prasada’s induction into BJP, speculations are rife that Pilot may contemplate on deserting the grand old party and joining hands with the saffron party.
Notably, Congress suffered a huge blow in 2020 when Jyotiraditya Scindia called it quits and joined the BJP. Following his exit, several Madhya Pradesh Congress leaders who were loyal to him had tendered resignation and joined the saffron brigade. The sudden turn of events had led to the falling of the Kamal Nath government in MP and the return of the Shivraj Singh Chouhan led BJP government.
Meanwhile, reports are doing round that the Congress top leadership is mulling to appoint Pilot as the new in-charge for Gujarat after the demise of Rajeev Satav in May. Notably, in the 2017 Gujarat Assembly elections, Ashok Gehlot was the in-charge for Gujarat.
