Union home minister Amit Shah tests positive for COVID-19, admitted to hospital – Livemint

Union home minster Amit Shah on Sunday has tested positive for novel coronavirus infection. “On getting the initial symptoms of corona, I got the test done and the report came back positive,” the home minister said today via social media platform Twitter.

He has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. “I am feeling okay, but on the advice of the doctors I am getting myself admitted into a hospital,” he added.”I request everyone who has come in contact with me over the last few days please isolate and get yourselves tested,” he said.

India witnessed the biggest jump in COVID-19 cases as over 57,000 had tested positive for novel coronavirus infection. With this, India’s COVID-19 tally neared 17 lakh mark. Coronavirus claimed as many as 764 lives in the last 24 hours. The death toll from the virus zoomed to 36,511. The fatality rate in the country was one of the lowest in the world, the health ministry said.

The centre announced a nationwide lockdown in the last week of March to curb the COVID-19 spread. Starting today, India entered the ‘Unlock 3.0’ phase to gradually restart the economic activities across the country. The night curfew which was applicable from 10 pm to 5 am were lifted. The gymnasiums are allowed to open their gates for enthusiasts from August 5. However, everyone need to follow the COVID-19 guidelines and maintain social distancing norms.

The lockdown restrictions in the containment zones were extended till the end of the August. The central government allowed the states and union territories to hold Independence Day ceremony while following coronavirus norms.

However, schools, colleges and other educational institutions will remain closed till August 31. Further, metro services, cinema halls and swimming pools, entertainment parks, bars, theatres, auditoriums and other social gathering places will also remain shut.

Earlier Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also tested positive for COVID-19 infection. He was admitted Chirayu Hospital for treatment. Kamal Rani, a minister in Uttar Pradesh cabinet died today at Lucknow’s Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical due to COVID-19 disease.
